Flood Relief Effort

In the past week, many families had been forced to leave their homes in response to the flood situation here in Sarawak. To date, approximately 6800 people in Kuching, Siburan, Padawan, Bau and Lundu have been evacuated.

On Tuesday 20 January 2015 the Lodge School Alumni Association (LSAA) decided to drop in at SK St. Peter’s in Kampung Simpok, Padawan (currently sheltering over 1000 registered evacuees) to assess the situation and offer our assistance in whatever way we can.

On the advice of the Ketua Kampung, the LSAA agreed to help provide fresh food items like vegetables, salted fish and cooking oil to add a little variety to the canned foods that the villagers have been eating in previous days. Also requested were garbage bins and bags to help keep the shelter area clean and to deter pests.

The requested items, plus additional foodstuffs like eggs, Milo and biscuits, were delivered and handed over to the folks at SK St. Peter’s by our President, Ai-Fen Goh, on behalf of the LSAA.

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to all our donors for their additional contributions to our very impromptu Flood Relief Effort!

While water levels seem to have receded, many villagers are still staying over at the Flood Relief shelters and may still require additional donations. We will continue to monitor the situation, but hopefully everyone can return to their homes soon.

If you would like to make a contribution, feel free to contact us!
